How to Write Shopee and Lazada Listings With AI

By Leon Harris, Founder & AI Creative Director · Updated August 2026

Your Shopee or Lazada page is getting views but no orders, or nobody is finding it at all. What you want is simple: a buyer types a few words, your product comes up, and the page does the selling for you. This article shows how marketplace search actually decides what to show, and how to use free AI tools to write listings that match it without getting your shop flagged.

Marketplace search is not Google search

On Google, people type long questions. On Shopee and Lazada, buyers type short product phrases, two to five words, like "wireless earphones bluetooth" or "cotton baby onesie 0-3mo". Both platforms lean heavily on your product name when deciding what to show for a search, which means your best keywords have to sit in the title itself, not buried in paragraph three of the description. If you have been writing a plain title and stuffing keywords into the description instead, you are working hard on the part of the page that matters least. Rewriting the title is the cheapest fix you have.

Find the words buyers actually type

Do not guess your keywords. Type your product's generic name into the Shopee or Lazada search bar and write down what autocomplete suggests, because those are phrases real buyers have typed. Then open five to ten competing listings in your exact category and note the words that repeat across their titles. On Shopee you can also open Keyword Ads (Seller Centre > Marketing Centre > Shopee Ads), which shows search volume and suggested bids for terms in your category; you can read the suggestions while setting an ad up and simply not launch it. Between autocomplete, competitor titles, and that ad data you will end up with a short list of eight to twelve terms.

Turn one spec sheet into a full listing

Before you open ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini (free tiers are enough for this), write out your product's real details: materials, sizes or dimensions, colours, what is in the box, warranty, any certifications. Vague specs in, generic listing out, no matter how clever your prompt. Then check the current title rules for your category on the Shopee PH Seller Education Hub or the Lazada Seller Center help pages: character limit, no ALL CAPS outside brand names, no promotional words like "Free Shipping", no emoticons.

Now give the AI all three inputs in one prompt, the specs, your keyword list, and the rules you just copied, and ask for a title led by your strongest keyword, a structured description (what it is, key features, specs, what is in the box, care and warranty), and five to eight bullet points. This is what AI genuinely does well: raw specs into clean, organised copy in one pass. What it cannot do is know today's platform rules on its own, so check the output by hand. Count the characters, delete stray symbols and promo words, and confirm every keyword is one you found on the platform, not one the model invented.

Why keyword stuffing backfires

Shopee treats keyword abuse as a rule violation, not just bad taste. Its Seller Education Hub lists keyword spam, attribute spam, and duplicate listings as spam listings: re-uploading a banned listing without editing it gets the listing deleted and earns a penalty point, severe listing violations earn two, and sellers who pile up listing penalty points can have their listing quota capped for 28 days. Lazada runs a separate non-compliance points system, where points accumulate against your store and a store that reaches the threshold is terminated. One strong keyword phrase leading the title plus a few natural secondary terms is the safe version.

Attributes and variations are not decoration

Colour, size, material and capacity fields feed the filter panel buyers use to narrow a search. A listing with a perfect title and blank attribute fields disappears the moment someone filters by size, and the title match does not save you. On Lazada, variations in supported categories are built from category-approved attributes such as colour and size, so those fields also control whether your variants can be chosen at all. Fill in every field the category offers, even the ones that look redundant.

Chat replies and captions from the same source

Shopee Seller Chat has message shortcuts and auto-reply; Lazada has quick replies. Ask your AI tool to draft answers to your five to eight most common questions, such as delivery time to their area, COD, sizing, warranty and authenticity, then load them into those settings. Fast replies also feed your seller metrics. The same spec sheet can also produce social captions, but do not paste the marketplace title into TikTok or Facebook. Ask for separate versions: a short hook-led one for TikTok, a longer benefit-led one for a Facebook post. A title written for a search box and a caption written to stop a scroll are two different jobs.

What AI copy cannot fix

Before you credit or blame your listing text, rule out the three things no amount of writing changes: your price against the other sellers on the same results page, your stated delivery time, and your shop rating. If views are healthy and orders are not, start there. AI can sharpen your words in an afternoon. It cannot out-write a price every buyer can see is higher, or a rating they have already read.

Frequently asked questions

Can I just use ChatGPT to write my whole Shopee or Lazada listing?

You can use it to draft the title, description and bullet points from your product's specs, but you still have to check the title yourself against the platform's current rules: character limit, no ALL CAPS outside brand names, no promotional words like "Free Shipping", no emoticons. The AI does not know today's platform rules unless you paste them into the prompt, and a rule breach can get the listing removed.

Why is my Shopee product getting views but no sales?

That pattern usually points away from the words and toward price, delivery time, or shop rating, which are the three things AI copy cannot fix. Compare your price against the other sellers on the same results page, check your stated delivery time, and look at your shop rating. Also make sure the photos and description are not promising something the product does not deliver.

Why does my product not show up when I search for it myself?

Most often the exact phrase buyers type is not in your product title. Type your product into the platform's search bar, look at what autocomplete suggests, and compare that against your current title. Also confirm you are in the right category and that attribute fields like colour and size are filled in, since blank attributes can drop you out of filtered searches even when the title matches.

What happens if I stuff my title with extra keywords to catch more searches?

Shopee's Seller Education Hub treats keyword spam, attribute spam and duplicate listings as spam listings. Re-uploading a banned listing without editing it gets the listing deleted and earns a penalty point, severe listing violations earn two, and sellers who accumulate listing penalty points can have their listing quota capped for 28 days. Lazada runs its own non-compliance points system that can end in store termination. One strong keyword phrase leading the title plus a few natural secondary terms is the safe approach.

Do I really need to fill in attribute and variation fields that repeat my title?

Yes. Attributes feed the filter panel buyers use to narrow their search, so a listing with a perfect title can still be filtered out if you left colour or size blank. On Lazada, variations in supported categories are built from category-approved attributes such as colour and size, which means those fields also control whether your variants can be selected at all.

Should my listing title be the same as my TikTok or Facebook caption?

No. The marketplace title is written for a search box and for buyers already looking for that product. A social caption has to stop someone mid-scroll. Use the same product spec sheet as the input, but ask your AI tool for separate versions: a short, hook-led one for TikTok and a longer, benefit-led one for a Facebook post.
